SUNNY GROVE

In many ways, the sun shined its brightest today. Normally, I am not told exactly what to do at work, but today I had one specific agenda; go shopping w/ Janet @ Beverly Hills. Obviously, I didn't contradict with that job. Therefore, after having the necessary morning-coffee, we headed south. Driving down the 14 and through the almost barren desert, I came to realize how used I have come to this place. It's not the most interesting spot in the world, but shoot, it's in California and that's where I wanted to go when I applied for the job. As said, I am really happy to be here and even though I sometimes wish to be even more south, it has never been my intention to complain (as much as I sometimes attend to do). Well, in Beverly Hills we had to buy some presents for her mom-in-law and for one of Laura's friends (who for sure could use some sunshine in her life - just to keep the meteorological talk going). Because of the last-mentioned gift-receiver, we went to American Girl Doll Store. This place deja vu'ed me all the way to January first, NYC. At this date I joined what seemed like hundreds of little 7-year-old girls for a D O L L - P A R T Y! I was, of course, hung-over, but had to take charge as the very responsible slave-like au pair slash nanny. Not quite the job for me the day after minimum ten glasses of whine & vodka & champagne (mixed). Enough with the complaining and back to the present (uuuuuuuh, double up on the meaning of that sentence; both the time and the gift). After picking up the newest doll, we went to Abercrombie to find something for Janet's mom-in-law. Recovering from the shock of seeing two half-naked guys in front of the store, we found the neatest scarf for her and some polo-shirts for the guys - and no, not the guys in store, but for Victor & Christian & Oscar. I was actually not tempted to buy anything at all there, 'cause it was somehow too much basis-wear-like. Maybe still being a bit worn-out of the sight in the store, we went to get some lunch and chill. The Grove was a really H Y G G E L I G place to be and we just sat and watched the colourful different people pass the street. Because of my lack of money I only purchased a few things; a cardigan & some pretty socks from Banana Republic (on sale, thank you) and a book for Laura: "Green Eggs and Ham" by Dr. Seuss. It reminded me of the fabulous "I am Sam"-movie. Sean Penn plays so well in it and I thought she would like it.
In addition to the day of no hard work at all, the weather was amazing. That is, if you like it really, really hot (!). I somehow dread the thought of how hot this summer is going to be. I can think of myself being used to California, but I can't fool anyone when it comes to the weather, - I'll still remain a Californian newbie.
